⑥Interview at the Legal Affairs Bureau

Approximately three months after your naturalization application is accepted, an interview will be held at the Legal Affairs Bureau. Generally, married people will be interviewed together with their spouse. Additionally, if the officer in charge determines that your Japanese language ability is in doubt, you may be required to take a Japanese language test on the same day. Interviewees are often asked about why they want to naturalize, and about family and work-related matters.

⑦Naturalization permission date

(approximately one year after the naturalization application date)

The results will be available approximately one year after the naturalization application is accepted.

After the results are published in the official telegram, you will receive a direct phone call from the Legal Affairs Bureau.
